2026 marks the start of a new era at Baptist Prep as Krista Spoon, who led the Lady Eagles to Class 3A state championships in 2022 and 2023, retires, and Mollie Singleton, a 2019 graduate of Baptist Prep, who played at Spurgeon College (Kan.), takes over. Singleton coached at Covenant School in Jacksonville, Fla. Since moving up to 4A in 2024, the Lady Eagles have been to the semifinals both times, and last year’s team had to replace three Division I signees: Ryan Rusher (Louisiana Tech), Addie Fielder (Southeastern Louisiana) and Rachel Jackson (Arkansas State). Singleton, who took over in June, likes her team’s attitude and said they are great at motivating one another and lifting their teammates when they are struggling. She said the Lady Eagles have to find a way to replace libero Kayla Midkiff. She said the keys to success are discipline and communication. “If we can stay disciplined in our movements and communicate through chaotic moments, we will be hard to beat this year,” said Singleton

Codie Zeigler came from Wynne, where she led the Lady Yellowjackets to a runner-up finish in 2024 to Westside and came within two points of winning the state championship after going 15-15-1 the previous year. Zeigler likes her team’s chemistry, work ethic, defense, and experience from last year’s postseason run. However, she is concerned about having to replace Mattyx Cureton, Macy Milner and Vada Watkins, who all played a big role on last year’s state runner-up team, and is unsure who will fill the other two spots in the starting lineup and off the bench. She said the key to success is staying mentally tough, keeping a good attitude, and trusting each other.

Then, the 2025 season was a year of change for the Brookland Lady Bearcats. Longtime head coach Nancy Rodriguez retired after leading the Lady Bearcats to three consecutive Class 4A state championships and six total. Assistant coach Katie Dillon was promoted to head coach and inherited a team with one returning starter (setter Macie Murray) that lost two of the past three state tournament MVPs in Evan Polsgrove and Chloe Rodriguez. Sitting at 3-5 after two weeks, Brookland rallied to advance to the Class 4A semifinals where it lost to eventual runner-up Jonesboro Westside. This year, Brookland returns five starters. Dillon likes her team’s defense and outside hitters in Kinley Hammett and Lynley Seyler. She said her team needs more offense from its middle blockers. She said the keys to success are having effective hitters to spread out the offense and blocking.

After having one of the best seasons in school history, the Lady Miners will host the Class 4A state tournament under second-year coach Haley Nelson. Nelson likes her team’s hitters and blockers, setters Asa Perry and Rylee Ferrell, and the team’s serve-receive. She said the team’s defensive gaps have to be improved with the losses of defensive specialists Rachael Clark, Taylor Lisko and Ashlynn Robinson. She said the keys to success are getting into a groove offensively and defensively, staying focused and executing offensively on the first ball.

After winning the 4A-2 Conference and the North Regional, the Lady Apache's have to replace four starters, but return two starters in Ella Drown and Sophie Ussery. Head coach Kacie Stabler said the position to watch is setter, where McKylee Staggs and Jesslyn Martin are battling for playing time because neither player played much on the varsity last year. Stabler said the Lady Apaches must make sure they play their best every night and play to their strengths.

COACH SAID, “This group will play really hard; they play well together and for each other. I think it will be a fun season to watch. We are losing some kids that had three years of varsity experience so things will look a little different. Mena has a new coach in Catherine Schluterman, who replaces Heather Goss after making a trip to the 4A quarterfinals a year ago. Mena, which moves to the 4A-2, loses two standouts in middle blocker Pascha Wistrand and setter Chloe Hooper, but brings back middle blocker Makenna Lee. Schluterman said her team’s strength is being able to play well out of system and has strong players in each position and reserves who can come in and play hard when needed. She said her team needs to avoid playing down to the opposition and having those moments where they lack energy. She said the keys to success are playing well out of system and playing aggressively to keep the opposition from getting into system.

After reaching the 3A semifinals a year ago, the Haskell Harmony Grove Cardinals move up to Class 4A with a team that returns four starters. Head coach Bailey Korte likes her team’s fundamentals from year-round play, powerful hitters, defensive options, aggressive serving, and hustle and effort. Korte said her team tends to overthink things on the court and let things get out of control after a few mistakes. However, she said her team improved that last year when it came to building the next-ball mentality. She said the keys to success are working together, having maximum effort, focusing on the basics, and serve-receive. “We need to be able to stay consistent and in control when things get hard. I am hoping with a ton of repetition, we can feel more confident in those things in tough situations and go back to our basics,” said Korte.

COACH SAID: “We are excited to move up to 4A this year and take on this new challenge. There are a lot of solid 4A teams across the state, and we are playing quite a few of

them in our regular season games. I hope we come out and compete with full effort and intensity each match to prepare for the postseason. Our goal this season is still the same. Have a great postseason run in hopes of reaching the state finals match. A lot of things have to happen before we can get there, and I hope this team is ready for the challenge and mental load that will bring! My seniors have given their all to this program since we started together in 2021 and want to finish their career on a high note. A year ago, under Shatel Gaines, the Wynne Lady Yellowjackets went 16-16-1 and reached the second round of the Class 4A state tournament. Wynne played a tough schedule featuring 11 regular-season matches against teams that qualified for the state tournament in their respective classes, including 6A state champion Conway, 5A champion Marion, 4A champion Bauxite, 4A runner-up Jonesboro Westside, 3A runner-up Harding Academy and 2A champion Hackett. After Gaines left for Nettleton to coach the junior-high team, Blair McClanahan was promoted from the junior-high team as the new coach. McClanahan inherits a team with six seniors, including Ella Reed, Clara Davis, and Lia Bunch, who were on a team that was 4A runner-up two years ago. McClanahan likes her team’s work ethic. She said the team has struggled with injuries during the summer. She hopes that doesn’t continue into the regular season because she said the team doesn’t have a lot of depth.

9. PRAIRIE GROVE

She said the keys to success are first-ball kills and being aggressive when getting caught out of system.

Duke said the biggest areas for growth are consistency, experience, and on-court communication. She said her team must develop an ability to stay focus and improve in pressure situations. The 2025 season was a rough one for Harrison, which went 3-16 overall and 2-12 in the 5A-West. This year, the Lady Goblins dropped to the 4A-1 Conference. A year ago, Huntsville won 21 matches and won the district tournament before falling to Mena in the 4A state tournament. This year, the Lady Eagles have to replace four starters: Katie Bertrand, Kalli Bolinger, Emaline Henry, and Kristyn Miller. The starter with the most returning experience is outside hitter/defensive specialist Jillian Blake. Despite having three seniors in the starting lineup, head coach Kasey Gosvener is concerned about a lack of varsity experience. Despite that, she said her team has a strong culture, work ethic, and commitment to growing and getting better, and a willingness to do whatever it takes to be successful. She said the keys to success are good communication and restlessness.

In 2025, Dave Carter came from Bauxite and inherited a team that went 6-14 the previous year. In his second year, Carter likes that his team has gotten stronger, faster, and has developed better connections as teammates. “We have some grit, some fortitude, and a desire to learn and grow,” said Carter. He needs his team leaders to show leadership and set a good example. He said the keys to success are resilience, tenacity, and grit. “We must persist,” said Carter.

After winning 19 matches and earning a spot in the Class 4A state tournament, Clarksville has to replace four productive seniors. However, head coach Wesley Davis likes the young talent coming into the program from a junior high team that went 21-2 and won the conference and district tournament and has two of them — Rae Campbell and Braley Cogan — projected to start. In addition, he has freshman Allyah Reynolds projected to start at outside hitter. With youth in the lineup, Davis said the young players have to adjust to the speed of the varsity game.

Richard said her team is strong when it comes to serve-receive, but its attacking needs to improve, with no returning player having more than 87 kills. She said the keys to success are being creative on the front row, getting tips, and taking control in the corners.

Rains said the keys to success are working hard to build setter and hitter connections so they can run a fast-paced offense.

A year ago, Harding Academy advanced to the Class 3A state finals before losing 3-1 to Mansfield. This year, the Lady Wildcats move up to Class 4A because of the Arkansas Activities Association’s competitive equity rule. Head coach Matt Francis has to replace four starters from last year’s state runner-up team, including their two top hitters and setter. With the return of libero Gabby Metheny, Francis likes his team’s defensive ability and serve-receive. With the loss of outside hitter Ellie Morgan and middle blocker Kayson Reeves, he is concerned about his team’s offense, experience, and blocking. He said the keys to success are the pin hitters, great defense, keeping the offense at a fast pace, and serving tough.

Arkadelphia failed to qualify for the state tournament in 2025 after losing to Pottsville in the first round of the 2024 state tournament. The Lady Badgers have a new coach in Savannah Whitaker, who takes over for Jenny Coon, who retired in the offseason. Whitaker, a native of Forney, Texas, graduated from Ouachita Baptist in May. She likes her team’s ability to have powerful serves and strong hitters. She said blocking needs to improve. She said the keys to success are working through adversity together.

Head coach Patricia Glover likes her team’s experience with three returning starters in Jada Joynt, Trinity Witherspoon and Heaven Brown and ability to serve aggressively. She said the weaknesses are communication, experience, and defense. She said the keys to success are aggressive offense, serve-receive, passing, and team chemistry.

COACH SAID: “All of these seniors have started our Pee Wee program and have really excelled. I enjoyed having them all the way though, set the stage for our program.
