The 2025-2026 school year as a successful one for Farmington as the girls basketball team and softball team won state championships and the volleyball team was state runner-up. Sadie Morrison was a member of the basketball team and Taitum Rehkopf and Emma Gore were on  the softball team. The volleyball team did everything it could to join those other two sports in bringing home a gold trophy, but lost 3-2 to Marion in the state championship match. The Lady Cardinals lose one starter in libero Kennedie Browning, but bring back a ton of talent including Emmerson Rehkopf, who is a North Alabama commitment. “We are returning a core group of juniors and seniors. We have a strong balanced offense with powerful and consistent hitters. We just have a competitive toughness about us and confidence in pressure situations,” said Farmington head coach Kylie Moad. Moad said she is concerned about being relentless on defense, having aggressive serving that creates pressure for the opposition and scoring in out-of-system situations. Moad said her team has a selfless culture with great energy, strong team chemistry and the players have a great deal of trust in each other along with a great work ethic. “Our kids just want to win,” said Moad. “Our practices are incredibly competitive.”

COACH SAID: “Last season’s accomplishments were special. Going undefeated in conference and earning a trip to the state championship match were milestones that our players, coaches and community were very proud of. But this year’s team understands we have a new season, new challenges and new goals ahead. Our team is hungry and we feel we have unfinished business in Hot Springs. In looking ahead, we are incredibly focused on the areas that help our team consistently win points, performing under pressure situations and maintaining momentum through every point. What excites me the most is that our players are committed to serving something bigger than themselves, they push each other every day and have embraced the work required to compete at a championship level. A year ago, the Marion Lady Patriots had a dream season, winning the Class 5A state title, going undefeated in the state of Arkansas with their only two losses coming to Collierville (Tenn.) and Houston (Tenn.). Despite losing four seniors, including state tournament MVP Kennedy Bullins, Marion brings back a ton of talent led by outside hitter Kendall Brown, outside hitter/setter Claire Brinkley, libero Annabelle White, setter and middle blocker Marlee Williams. They have loads of experience with nine seniors. Head coach Lisa Beasley said this is a senior class that loves one another and loves to play and displays a lot of competitiveness. “This group generally cares about each other, and it shows with how hard they work and play for each other. I love their energy, their grit, and commitment to each other.” Beasley said there are areas her team can get better, such as communication, and said the bench is not as deep as it has been in past years. She said the key to success is staying healthy.

 COACH SAID: “I just feel privileged to be their coach and am thrilled to have a front seat watching these young ladies do what they love. I am in awe of them. The Lady Blazers, who’ve won 16 state championships, are trying to end a four-year drought and return to the state finals for the first time since 2022. Head coach Margie McGee likes her team’s experience, ball control, and depth. She is concerned about finding the right chemistry and making sure her team keeps its composure in pressure situations. She said the key to success is to maintain consistency and play to its potential every night.

The Lady Panthers will benefit from having Marlie Crossman back in the lineup after being injured most of last season. Head coach Katie Huff likes her team’s returning experience, but acknowledges her team is still young with two sophomores in the lineup.

The Lady Warriors, who won the Class 5A state title in 2021, have not won a match in the state tournament since a first-round victory over Van Buren in 2022. Head coach Lacey Rowan hopes her team can have a longer postseason run with a team that loses one senior in Sydney Lavender. With seven seniors in the rotation, she likes her team’s depth along with bringing back both defensive specialists in Sadie Costello and Abby Robinson. Rowan likes the leadership her team has shown. The one area of concern she has are the high number of left-handed players so finding the right spot on the floor can be tricky. She said the keys to success are working out connections between our setters and hitters, especially with middle blockers which she likes to use in the offense as much as possible.

We have a strong group of seven seniors that are focused on leading and setting high expectations while always having a lot of fun. In 2025, the Lady Panthers lost nine seniors from a team that reached the state semifinals in 2024 and won state titles in 2022 and 2023 and were state runner-up in 2021. Despite the inexperience and tough schedule, Benton won the 5A-South, but lost to Shiloh Christian in the first round of the state tournament. This year, Benton has a new coach in Brooke White, who was an assistant for the previous three seasons to Michelle Shoppach, who retired in the spring. Benton brings back a lot of experience from last year’s team but lacks size, with nobody standing 6-0, White said her team must maintain a team-first attitude in order to be successful.

COACH SAID: “I’m really excited to be named the new head coach. I’ve coached them since eighth grade and have known them for a long time. We have a strong program and we want to keep the tradition. We have a level of maturity on the court that will grow that year. We know what to expect. Last year, a lot of the girls were sophomores didn’t know what to expect and weren’t in situations before.” — Benton head coach Brooke White.

After winning the Class 4A state tournament, the Lady Bruins move up to Class 5A because of the Arkansas Activities Association’s competitive equity rule and will be placed in the 5A-Central, which includes Greenbrier (2024 5A runner-up); Little Rock Christian (2021 5A state champion), and Mount Saint Mary (head coach Jason Lambert’s former school, which won the 5A Central last year). Pulaski Academy, which finished second in the 4A-5 Conference, won its last eight matches of the season to win the regional tournament and the state title. They return a number of key contributors from last year’s state championship team, including Sophie Greenwood, who was the MVP of the state tournament. Lambert likes his team’s experience, especially in pressure situations. He is concerned about losing four seniors from last year’s state championship team and replacing their leadership. He said the key to success is controlling the game and being aggressive offensively.

COACH SAID: “We’re going to have a good season. We have a lot of repeat talent and a lot of good experience. The conference is going to be tough, but we had a tough conference in 4A, and we’re coming in at a good position and not changing much. A year ago, despite the fact that head coach Olivia Stroud missed a significant part of the season because of maternity leave, the Belles won the 5A-Central with an undefeated record, won Spikefest by sweeping Valley View in the finals, and were ranked No. 1 in a statewide poll for three weeks. This year, the Belles have to replace libero Ella Nelson, outside hitter Kaylee Moix, and middle blocker Josie Wrape. They have all-state hitter Taylor Wherry and all-conference selection Marlee Bagby coming back, along with outside hitter Catherine Anderson. Stroud likes her team’s IQ and ability to be scrappy. She said she is concerned about inexperience in certain positions. She said the keys to success are teamwork and putting the right pieces together.

I'm especially grateful our girls have the opportunity to play two additional conference matches because they truly love the game. I'm incredibly proud of the young women in our program.. The Lady Pointers lost three matches after Sept. 13 and finished second in the 5A-West. While Van Buren loses key players like Aubrie McGhee, Jada Perryman and Caitie Dunbar, second-year head coach Whitney Adams is excited about having returning players like Carley Freeman, Maitlyn Dunn and Emberly Kimes. She’s excited about an incoming sophomore class that includes Caroline Gardner. “The sophomore class brings a strong work ethic, consistently

showing hustle, determination, and heart. Several of these athletes will have the opportunity to make an impact at the varsity level,” said Adams. 

Adams likes her team’s athleticism and physical presence with players who are stronger, more experienced, and dynamic. “We have several explosive athletes who bring energy above the

net, while our back row excels with quick reactions and strong defensive coverage,” said Adams.

However, Adams is concerned about depth and having to replace players like McGhee, Perryman and Dunbar. “We’ll be counting on a number of players to step into bigger roles, including some who are still gaining varsity-level experience,” said Adams. 

Adams said her team needs to embrace a “we over me” mentality, and the returning players need to take a strong leadership role.

10. PARAGOULD

After Ava Beasley missed most of the 2024 season with a knee injury, the Lady Rams returned to the state tournament as the No. 3 seed with a healthy Beasley in the 5A-East behind Marion and Valley View before losing to Greenbrier in the first round. Going into the 2026 season, the Lady Rams are a team to watch in the 5A-East with five seniors in the starting lineup and nine on the roster and depth at the defensive specialist position. However, they have three 3-year starters to replace: Hadley Luke, Lila Beach, and Sophie Hancock. Head coach Reed Fogleman said that while the Lady Rams have nine seniors, she said the big issue is making sure everyone is on the same page when it comes to end goals. She said the keys to success are that most of the team’s hitters can play other positions and putting players in the right spot depending on the opposition.

COACH SAID: “We have a lot of experience and a lot of options with the front row. More depth at the defensive specialist position will be beneficial for us. We have experience at our setter position to help us run an efficient offense. The 5A-East will always be a dogfight for the top four spots. Having nine teams makes it tougher. Playing in the loaded 5A-East, Batesville is hoping to break into the top four and earn a spot in the state tournament. Second-year coach Chastan Carpino likes her team’s athletic ability and quickness with four players — outside hitter Addie Livingston, libero Georgie Freiert, middle blocker Maleah Treat, outside hitter/defensive specialist Keyonna Johnson — who saw significant playing time a year ago. She is concerned about having to replace setter Maggie Price and having to overcome a lack of size with two players standing 5-9. She said the keys to success are relying on serve-receive, scrappy defense, and high offensive IQ. “We will most likely not overpower anyone from the front row, but I feel like we have a strong first line of defense in our middle blockers, and quick defenders in the back row. We will have to outsmart our opponents and be relentless on defense,” said Carpino.

Jessica Morrison took over a team that won three matches in 2024 and predicted big things when she spoke at Media Days in 2025.  “This group can do whatever it wants; they have the skill, we will go to state as long as they keep buying in. I have amazing players; they were never utilized together as a full team,” said Morrison a year ago. Beebe did triple its victory total, with its biggest victory being a 3-0 win over Little Rock Christian, which qualified for the state tournament as the No. 3 seed from the 5A-Central, but failed to qualify for the state tournament. This year, Beebe moves to the loaded 5A-East with defending state champion Marion and perennial power Valley View. Morrison has a team that is young when it comes to varsity playing experience. She said the Badgers must show discipline, consistency and accountability.

Despite losing five seniors, Hahn said her team should be strong defensively and in serve-receive. She said the team has to overcome a lack of experience with three sophomores in the lineup and three more in the rotation. She said her team has to be aggressive, execute on serve-receive and make out-of-system plays.

This year, Nettleton brings a team that head coach Tiffeny Lovelace said has a lot of grit and determination, energy, and camaraderie. However, Lovelace said they have to find a way to replace the production of Sample and Pool. Lovelace said the key to success is the play of her front row, which has two starters who stand 5-10 and one other off the bench, and her team’s defense.

She said the keys to success are being flexible, trusting each other and continuing to be selfless and have a team success mindset.

This year, the Lady Bears hope to get back to the state tournament in the stacked 5A-Central, which now includes 4A champion Pulaski Academy. Head coach Michelle Muhammad said her team has the ability to see the court. She said her setters have great court awareness and have strong hitters, who are talented enough to hit around blocks and transition into defense to give the opposition problems at the net. She likes her team’s experience with 10 seniors. She said the lack of height, with one player standing 5-9 is something they have to overcome. She said the keys to success are buying into each other and making sure individual goals are secondary to team goals.

We have 10 experienced seniors who understand what it takes to compete, along with a strong group of juniors and some sophomores who are ready to step into bigger roles. We have a lot of talent and experience, but our biggest focus is on playing together, trusting each other, and continuing to grow throughout the season. In 2025, Hot Springs Lakeside defeated Benton 3-2 and had a chance to win a share of the 5A-South Conference title. However, a 3-2 loss to Lake Hamilton a week later kept the Lady Rams from winning the conference title. Lakeside has four starters back in London Jackson, who is one of the best players in the state, along with Macie Divers, Tristyn Oswalt and Chloe Rhea. However, there is some youth with two freshmen — Miracle Davis and Hendrix Yancey — who are expected to see playing time at middle blocker. Head coach Rhonda Thigpen said the key is to build the program for the future, not just this year, and not to get down when faced with adversity.

This year, she hopes her team can close the gap on Lakeside and Benton in the 5A-South. Frye said her team works well together and does a good job communicating. She said the team’s speed has to improve. She said the keys to success are keeping the future together, working hard, and staying calm under pressure.

In 2025, the Greenwood Lady Bulldogs missed the state tournament, which is a rarity for a team that’s won three state championships, with its most recent in 2020, and made the state finals in 2023, losing in five sets to Benton. This year, head coach Jennifer Golden hopes her team can return to the postseason with a team that has five starters and one reserve who saw significant playing time a year ago. Golden likes her team’s offensive and defensive balance and chemistry with upperclassmen and four sophomores who are expected to see a lot of playing time. Golden said the keys to success are having good chemistry and limiting unforced errors.

She said the Bombers will have to overcome inexperience with two sophomores in the starting lineup and two others coming off the bench. She said the keys to success are communication, team-first mentality and to be the aggressor.

The Lady Panthers are coming off their best season in Carrie Thammarath’s three years at Siloam Springs with a runner-up finish in the 5A-West and a victory over Lake Hamilton in the first round of the state tournament. Siloam Springs must find a way to replace setter Haley Thomas and two other 3-year starters in libero Cenzi Johnson and right-side hitter Story Castagna. Despite the losses, Thammarath likes her team’s potential and cites outside hitters/defensive specialists Erika Ellis and Isabel Suarez, her team’s defenders and ability to play a fast tempo. She is concerned about a lack of height, with no one over 5-9 and cites the need for some younger players to step up. She said the keys to success are balancing speed and power with efficiency and consistency and finding its hitters on offense.
